Measuring 16" high and 6 3/8" wide, this desirable one of a kind vintage sculpture features a male profile hand carved from fir which has been flame darkened. The image has strong, softly chiseled features, a serious expression and powerful, open eyes. It is signed by the carver "W.W." on the lower right side. There are scuffs, scratches and many small imperfections which are not overly distracting, some adhesive remnants on the back, and the tip of the nose and a few other tiny spots need to be re darkened. The condition otherwise is very good. This wonderful work of art has tremendous style which will only improve with age.

Rewarded with the Grand Prize at the International Exhibition of 1925. Leon Hatot’s history begins in Paris, in 1911, when the 22 year old watchmaker, jeweler, entrepreneur, inventor, editor and artist arrives from Besançon. He soon finds work with the leading jewelers of Paris, such as Boucheron, Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels. Before long, he has acquired Bredillard, a leading manufacturer and supplier of watches, clocks, jewelry and other stylish accessories to the leading firms of Place Vendome. This brilliant French watchmaker also created a inventive concept for an automatic wristwatch winding. The Leon Hatot patent was bought by Blancpain in 1930 for 1 million French Francs a year
cm It is indeed a bronze cast of the 1920's-30's and not a later replica.
Leon Hatot did other sculptures and was rewarded with Grand Prize for this
part of his artistic carreer in 1925 in the "Exposition des Arts
Decoratifs de Paris" where Ruhlmann, Printz, Janniot, Legrain, Lalique,
Brandt, Chareau, Follot, Groult, Dufrêne, Dunand, etc.. were amongst
exhibitors. Since then, he has been so famous for his clocks that people
forgot what a great art deco figure he was.

Topkwaliteit.
Ingehouden kracht en uitstraling van energie.
Een bronzen portret van oud-premier Joop den Uyl voor de Partij van de Arbeid maakt van Schreurs een landelijk bekende beeldhouwer. In 1992 wordt dit beeld geplaatst in het gebouw van de Tweede Kamer in Den Haag.
Na het portret van Joop den Uyl krijgt Schreurs opdrachten in het hele land. Voor het Centrum 40-45 in Oegstgeest vervaardigt hij een beeld dat wordt geplaatst als monument voor de nabestaanden van de slachtoffers van de Tweede Wereldoorlog. In 1995 maakt hij een groot beeld voor de stadskantoren van Breda. Ook Philips te Winterswijk, Stichting tot het Nut van het Algemeen te Deventer en Ruhold te Deventer geven de beeldhouwer opdrachten.
De stijl van Schreurs' plastieken heeft een duidelijke ontwikkeling ondergaan. Deze is in de eerste periode vooral figuratief te noemen. De laatste jaren heeft Schreurs het realisme verruild voor een expressievere benadering. Zijn beelden blijven weliswaar figuratief, maar permitteren zich grotere, speelse vrijheden en overtredingen van het realisme.
Terugkerend thema van de beelden is de accentuering van de zwaartekracht, waardoor een contrast ontstaat tussen het aardse en de ruimte. Hiermee verbeeldt Schreurs 'de draagbare lichtheid', zoals hij dit zelf noemt.

Charlotte Dorothée Baronesse van Pallandt werd op 24 september 1898 geboren te Arnhem. Pas nadat haar huwelijk (1919-1923) met Adolph Limpurg, graaf van Rechteren, was beëindigd ontwikkelde zij haar artistieke begaafdheid. In 1926 ging zij naar Parijs waar zij een jaar les nam bij André Lhote en daarna bij Charies Malfray. Haar tekeningen en beelden hadden tot 1930 een duidelijke invloed van de aangeleerde werkwijze van Lhote.
Zij werkte, vooral als beeldhouwster, tot 1939 in Parijs, waarna zij terugkeerde naar Nederland in verband met de dreigende oorlog. Zij werd o.a. bekend door de beelden die zij maakte van Koningin Juliana (1953) en Koningin Wilhelmina (1968). Charlotte van Pallandt overleed op 30 juli 1997 in Noord

| Artist: Brian Willsher | This large, abstract, geometric, form is precisely carved from a solid block of African hardwood, and takes on different sculptural aspects, depending on which way it is displayed and lit. This, along with the rich, honey tone of the wood, gives it an organic quality.
Brian Willsher, born in London in 1930, created his first forms from wood in 1956. After a one man show at Dunn's in Bromley in 1965 and another at Heals in 1966 his career took off.
He was given another show at Heals in 1967 and showed in Melbourne, Australia. Had three works commissioned for Dartington Hall and six for Devon Guild of Craftsmen. In 1968 Henry Moore and Herbert Read acclaimed Willsher's work, which was retailed by both Heals and Libertys.
Exhibitions at Tate Britain, (1980’s), Boundary, and Belgrave Galleries, (1990’s). Shared exhibition with his son, the painter Daniel Willsher, at Belgrave Gallery 1997.
Interest in his work has fuelled demand from collectors at auctions and galleries, and his sculptures have proved to be a good investment, with prices steadily increasing.
This sculpture has green baize on the base, but the previous owner informs me that it is not signed. Signatures, when present, are usually in biro, along with the date, but pieces are not always signed…his craftsmanship is unmistakable.
Made circa 1980, and offered in excellent condition, with no breaks or repairs.
