    W.541. Okimono two sage.
This exquisite and quintessentially Japanese carving represents the Zen masters Kanzan and Jittoku, holding a scroll. As so often with this subject, they are shown beaming with joyous delight at the holy contents of the scroll -- in this case, the name of Amaterasu Okami, the great Sun Goddess and highest of the kami in the Shinto pantheon.

The group is approximately 116mm (4.5") high and is signed on the base Isshin. It dates from the late Meiji era, 1880 - 1890. Carved from a single piece of ivory, it is in excellent condition, with some natural yellowing (especially at the rear) and no signs of damage or restoration. Some collection numbers have been written on the base in ink, now very faded

The carving is of the highest quality; the piece is a wonderful study of character. It is impossible to hold this in your hands and not smile.
Price € 625,00

    w542.Boy warrior okimono.
This is a 1920s Ivory Okimono of a Boy Soldier with A Sword. The carving details and coloration make this an exceptional piece. Look at his face and hands. The detail work of his uniform and sword is spectacular. This is real ivory as evidenced by the crosshatching in the grain.
Height: 10 ½" w/out stand (12" with custom stand, to which he is attached)
Width: 2"
Depth: 1 ½"
Origin: China
Circa:1920s
Condition: Excellent with no chips or restorations.
This item would make a fine addition to any Ivory collection

    W543 19th .C.Netsuke,HOTEI
The Netsuke dates from the mid to late Meiji period; between 1860 and 1880. The Netsuke depicts a Buddha like figure, carved in ivory and wearing flowing robes.

The figure is bare-chested and he has large ears and balding head.
The well known friendly Hotei.
The figure holds or drags over his shoulder a sack. The sack is plain and almost pebble like, of smooth and polished ivory. The figure itself is decorated with black lines. There are one or two cracks to the ivory, these long filled with dirt; this being part of the process of the ivory drying out over time. There is wonderful detail underneath, to the feet. This beautiful figure has its two holes to the base and back. The figure measures a length of approximately 1.75 inches and it stands approximately 1.5 inches high. This is a delightful example of the Netsuke carvers' art.

Price € 450,00

    W544.Meiji period.Laughing man
This Netsuke dates from the mid to late Meiji period; between 1860 and 1880. The Netsuke depicts a figure, carved in ivory and wearing flowing robes.

The figure supports himself with one hand and in his left hand he holds a tablet / writing book. The head is beautifully polished with wear; the detail to the clothing being created with scratched and coloured markings. There is wonderful detail underneath, to the feet and clenched hand. This beautiful figure has its two holes to the base and back. The figure measures a length of approximately 1 inch and it stands approximately 1.5 inches high. This is a delightful example of the Netsuke carvers' art. The figure is in excellent condition, patinated to some areas and polished to others.
